Dalaman is the closer airport to both Kalkan and Kaş, and it is the right answer whenever a direct flight exists in your dates. When it does not, which for UK and Irish travellers means shoulder season and winter, Antalya's year-round schedule becomes the realistic option, and the price of that flight is a longer road at the end of it. This page gives you the decision, the realistic drive times and the seasonal flight picture, then gets out of the way.

The decision at a glance

Find your season in the flights row, then accept the drive that comes with it. The table is the whole decision; the rest of the page shows its working.

Dalaman Antalya
Road to Kalkan about 120 to 130 km, 1h30 to 2h20 about 190 to 230 km, around 3 to 3.5 hours
Road to Kaş about 145 to 150 km, 2 to 2.5 hours about 200 to 220 km, 3 to 3.5 hours
UK flights summer-seasonal, summer-heavy year-round, including winter
When it wins a direct flight exists in your dates off-season, or no direct Dalaman option

The road half of the maths

Dalaman is meaningfully closer to both towns on every reliable measure. Dalaman to Kalkan is about 120 to 130 km by road, between about 1h30 in clear conditions and 2h20 when the road is busy or dark. Dalaman to Kaş is about 145 to 150 km, a drive of 2 to 2.5 hours. From Antalya the journey stretches: about 190 to 230 km to Kalkan, around 3 to 3.5 hours, and about 200 to 220 km to Kaş, again 3 to 3.5 hours. Whichever pairing you compare, the Antalya drive is the longer one by a clear margin.

A caution about the figures you will meet elsewhere: many broker and calculator pages quote optimistic single times or straight-line distances, which is how the same journey can look dramatically shorter on a sales page. This post quotes only drive-time ranges we are prepared to defend. For everything about how the Dalaman transfer actually works, see our Dalaman transfer guide.

The flight half: the season flips the answer

The schedule, not the map, is what changes the answer. Dalaman's UK service is built around the summer, Antalya's runs all year, and once you know which side of that divide your dates fall on, the decision usually makes itself.

In summer, Dalaman

UK and Irish service to Dalaman is summer-seasonal and summer-heavy, and in season it is broad enough that most readers can fly direct from an airport near home. Jet2 flies seasonally from Belfast International, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford, Liverpool, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham. easyJet serves Dalaman from 31 March 2026, and Gatwick has direct flights with easyJet, SunExpress, Turkish Airlines and Corendon. From Dublin, seasonal nonstops operate with Ryanair, SunExpress and Aer Lingus. If a direct Dalaman flight exists in your dates, take it and enjoy the shorter transfer; there is no summer case for Antalya.

In shoulder season and winter, Antalya

Antalya is the year-round route. Winter direct service continues from major UK hubs, with Jet2, easyJet and Pegasus from London, TUI from Manchester, Jet2 from Birmingham and Belfast, and SunExpress from Edinburgh, while Dalaman's seasonal schedule thins out and then stops. That leaves an honest trade rather than a happy one: hold out for the shorter transfer and risk a flight that does not exist, or accept 3 to 3.5 hours on the road for a flight that does. Off season, the second option is usually the realistic one.

What changes for Kaş

Nothing in the logic, and a little in the numbers. Dalaman still wins on the road: about 145 to 150 km and 2 to 2.5 hours to Kaş, against about 200 to 220 km and 3 to 3.5 hours from Antalya. Both drives are simply longer than their Kalkan equivalents, because Kaş sits further along the same coast road. The flight picture does not change at all, since you are choosing between the same two airports: direct Dalaman service in summer, Antalya's year-round schedule once the season closes. So if you are asking which airport is best for getting to Kaş, the answer is Dalaman whenever a direct flight lines up with your dates, and Antalya when it does not.

The Istanbul option when nothing flies in your window

Connecting through Istanbul is the standard fallback when nothing direct fits. Domestic service from Istanbul to both airports is high frequency with Turkish Airlines, AJet, Pegasus and SunExpress, and Antalya's schedule is the larger of the two. The connection also opens the most rewarding version of the plan, a few days in the city before the coast, which we cover in the twin-centre route. For a straight connection with no city stay, the same rule as above applies, because the domestic leg lands you at the same two airports with the same roads at the end.

Locking dates before flights

The practical order is villa dates first, then flights. In high season the villa week is the scarcer resource, so settle where you are staying before you commit to a route, and keep a little flexibility in your dates: it does more for your airport options than any amount of flight searching. Once the week is held, the flight decision above usually answers itself. If you are still choosing, browse our Kalkan villas and check your dates against the weeks that remain open.

Frequently asked questions

Should I connect through Istanbul if no direct flight works?

Yes. Istanbul is the standard fallback when no direct option fits. Domestic service to both airports is frequent, with a larger schedule to Antalya; if possible, choose Dalaman for the shorter road to Kalkan and Kaş.

Is there a direct bus from Antalya airport to Kalkan?

No. Public transport from Antalya airport to Kalkan takes about 6 hours 26 minutes and involves connections, so it is not a realistic arrival plan after a flight. A private transfer or a hire car covers the same road in around 3 to 3.5 hours.

What is the nearest airport to Kalkan and Kaş?

Dalaman, for both towns. It is about 120 to 130 km from Kalkan by road, a drive of between about 1h30 and 2h20 depending on traffic and daylight, and Kaş lies a little further along the same coast. Antalya is the alternative when no direct Dalaman flight matches your dates.
